This Forest Mug is one from my collection of
Double Dipped Stoneware Mugs made by me and
fired to over 2,200 degrees in my kiln. When this
mug was at the Leather Hard Stage (before its first firing
of 1,800 degrees), I dipped the outside into a
White Stoneware Clay that prepared the mug’s surface for me to
reveal the darker clay beneath. I have chosen a Light Blue Glaze
that actually breaks over the hand tooled ridges revealing
the Toasty Brown Clay underneath. I just love how the glaze
breaks over the carved “branches” of this mug and makes
me think I’m back hiking in one of our bucolic Bucks
County Parks. If you look closely on the bottom you
will see the white clay peeking through that
makes this double dipped process all possible.
This Mug holds about 15 oz of liquid,
measures 4 3/8 inches high
and is 3 3/4 inches wide
(not counting the handle).
I hope you enjoy this
piece as much as I have
enjoyed making it.
